Worry less, Mudra more: A Trendy Tip for Fueling your Fire
“Google, how can I be more confident?” “Google, how do I get over food cravings?” GOOGLE! HOW DO I CLEAN UP MY SKIN?”
We all do it, yes you - we know you’ve done it!
We have all been there. Google is our go-to under cover BFF who is always there to support us in times of need.
We want to share with you a little something that would typically not pop up in a google search. Something that you also 99% would not think to ask google about, and maybe even something you do not know exists.
Mudras. {moo-druhs}
We like the way our friends over at the Yogi Times define Mudras:
Mudras, derived from Sanskrit meaning "sealing in the energy", are elaborate hand and finger gestures which have symbolic meaning as visual language. Also known as Yoga of the hands and fingers, their energetic powers can be directed to heal and influence the energies within our bodies.
Not so spiritual? Let’s take that aspect away. Working with mudras does not have to mean you are “weird” or “woo-woo”, mudras are just “tools” that can help open up your body to feeling different ways.
Have you heard about “power stance” poses? Those different body positions that create different emotions and feelings? For example, a leg up on a stool is a “power stance” and creates a feeling of confidence.
Think of mudras in exactly that way. Everything we do with our body produces a feeling and some type of energy. The energy created with mudras literally rewrites both your emotional and physical states of being in any present moment.
Why are they so powerful? Because not only are mudras transforming your energy, but they are bringing you back down to earth. They are forcing you to focus.
So, these pretty and picture-esq hand positions have a lot of benefits to them. We think we have proven our point thus far.
Let’s look into a few of our favorite mudras hand-picked (get it) just for you:
#1. Mudra for food cravings; Kamajayi Mudra
Transform “cravings” (generally known for sexual cravings, but applicable to all) into creative energy.
To do it:
Open up your hand, curl in your fingers slightly. Bend in your thumb to a 90 degree angle, bring the top of your pointer finger to the top nail of your thumb and press down. Other fingers still slightly bent. Do this with both hands.
Mantra: I am here for a higher purpose. I am important, strong, and filled with light.
#2. Mudra for beautiful skin; Prithvi Mudra
Known to equalize the element of earth within the body and bring body to stability and ease
To do it:
Join the tip of the ring finger and tip of the thumb . Do this with both hands.
Mantra: My body is full of light. My face is full of light. I am full of light.
#3 Mudra for no more worry; Apan Vayu Mudra
Similar to the above, this mantra increases the earth + fire elements in your body, while decreasing the air element and helps to detox the body and bring more oxygen to the heart
To do it:
Bring the tips of your middle and ring finger to the tip of your thumb, keep your other fingers extended and relaxed. Do this with both hands.
Mantra: My breath is easy. My worry is none.
#4 Mudra for awakening to your power; Lotus Mudra
Helps us to realize our potential and is symbolic of rebirth. Lotus flowers grow in mud - like the lotus, we can grow from muddy circumstances and blossom into beautiful flowers.
To do it:
Bring the base of the palms together at your heart’s center, touching the thumbs and pinky fingers together. Spread the rest of the fingers out like the lotus flower.
Mantra: I give myself permission to allow my greatest light to shine.
And, there it is folks! A new hidden gem. We didn’t come up with it though, so only give us half the credit (for sharing this beautiful and valid information with you, of course!).
Like this? You can look up mudras for basically anything!
Until next time, mudra (moooooooo-druh..) on.
