The Skincare Kitchen | Connection Between Food and Self

In case you missed it, Halo Rituals made an appearance at one of our local favs - Wye Hill Kitchen and Brewing. If you didn’t miss it, you probably are currently reaping the benefits of gloriously glowing skin today.

This private event was hosted by one of Raleigh’s (also local fav) membership based communities - The Women’s Social Club. Haven’t heard of them? If you’re a social, community loving woman - we think this one may be up your alley. They provide monthly events for their members, and you probably don’t want to miss (any) of them. Check them out.

We also love the founder, Hannah Weisberg, for her authentically passionate spirit. So needless to say, we had a lot of fun collabing with this event.

At this Conditioning the Connection event, participants learned all the deets on unique and easy skin + self care techniques. We called it, “The Skincare Kitchen”. Clever, right? We incorporated simple ingredients along with Halo product to create both do-able and love-able recipes.

And as for you, if you missed it, no worries! Head to your kitchen right now and join the party. In this post we give you a recap of every “recipe”.

Throughout the event, various hot topics regarding the beauty industry were discussed. A few of our favorites - gender neutrality within the beauty industry, and sustainability of products. We love to bring light to what is happening within the industry - often these “issues” are overlooked and society is somewhat brainwashed into what is true about beauty products.

However, we believe both you and your body are sacred, so you deserve to know what the beauty industry is up to.

A recap on a few things the modern day beauty industry is teaching our world:

  1. Women and men “need” different products We concur. Men and women ARE different, but there are also a lot of things that we all have in common. This is why Halo creates products that both men and women can use interchangeably - because it’s all the same. It’s all nourishing. And if we may, it’s all “conditioning the connection”.

  2. Women should pay more for products (ie. pink razors vs. a “manly” blue razor)Pink tax. Heard of it? Well, it’s basically “jacked up” prices for items that are created and designed specifically for women. Items that are really only different because of “pretty” packaging or feminine colors.

  3. Everyone needs a different product for every aspect of their daily careWhen it comes down to it our bodies love simplicity. They know what they want - and believe it or not, “simple” is just enough for them. Not the colored packaging, overly marketed products, but good ol’ simplicity. Simple is s e x y!

As for sustainability - it’s something we preach. All of our products are 100% reusable and recyclable. As a collective, every little bit counts towards protecting our environment (and us!). Products we use all have an affect on our bodies - It’s important to be mindful of this fact. We absorb it all.

Okay, on the topic of absorption - let’s dive into our recipe recaps. We know you’ve been standing in your kitchen waiting for them.

Below are all of the recipes we lead the women of the Women’s Social Club through during the event. We tackled every area - Face, eyes, hair + nails, and body (we’ve even included a bonus hydration recipe here!).

Everyone put em together, put em on their bodies, and reaped all of the deliciously simple *yet sexy* benefits of these easy concoctions.

Recipe One

What: Face Egg White Mask

To: Energize

Recipe:

Mix into small bowl and apply thin layer to face using fingertips or brush.

Why we love this?

This ridiculously simple mask will have your skin looking like a glowing super-star. We absolutely love the benefits of this concoction and these ingredients can be found (most likely) in your kitchen literally right this moment. Here are some recipe benefits:

  • Fight acne/bacteria

  • Tighten/shrink pores

  • Lighten/brighten the skin

  • Even out discoloration/dark spots

  • Energize the skin

  • Hydrate (we love this!)

To be mindful of when using:

  • Can be tough on sensitive skin

  • Avoid sun exposure

  • Use the right eggs! (semolina is rare but..)

Recipe Two

What: EYES | Cucumber Aloe Mask

To: Relieve

Recipe:

  • 1- 2 Slices of Aloe Vera Leaf

  • 1 Sliced Cucumber

Slice cucumber into thin circles and cut again into halves. Peel aloe leaf and add into bowl with cucumber slices until fully soaked. Place cucumber slices on eyes until fully absorbed.

Why we love this?

Okay, for one cucumbers are delicious. Two, don’t we all want to look like the typical “spa face” every once in a while? This is the recipe that will do just that for you. Cucumbers are SO beneficial - not just for our insides, but for our skin as well. They heal and hydrate - and along with aloe, this recipe is full of super powers for your eyes. Here are some recipe benefits:

  • Help heal or repair damaged skin

  • Relieve swelling or puffiness

  • Moisturize dry or flaky skin

  • Treat sunburned skin

  • Relieve redness or irritation

  • Stimulate antioxidant activity

To be mindful of when using:

  • Nothing here to warn you of! Cucumber away.

Recipe Three

What: HAIR + NAILS | Coconut Oil Mask

To: Moisturize

Recipe:

  • 1 c Coconut Oil (can use olive oil to sub)

  • 1 Ripe banana

Smash banana into bowl and mix with coconut oil until compelled blended. Apply thick mask to hair for 15-20 min before shower.

Why we love this?

Coconut oil is everything. It just is. We love that you can use this recipe on BOTH your hair and nails - and it’s extremely simple to whip up. This recipe is good if you have “dry” features (skin, hair, etc.) or just need a boost of hydration.

It’s also good if you are in the sun a lot! Yes, coconut oil actually blocks UV rays. Here are some recipe benefits:

  • Improve hair dryness

  • Improve scalp health

  • Protect hair from protein loss

  • Protect hair from UV exposure

  • Fight infections and fungus

  • Support hair growth

  • Add volume and shine

To be mindful of when using:

  • Again, nothing here to be shy of! Have fun with this one.

Recipe Four

What: BODY | Halo x Coffee Body Scrub

To: Exfoliate

Recipe:

150314274_269072654607337_4023268669839128779_n.jpg

  • ½ c. Halo Rituals Oil

  • 1c. Coffee (can replace with sugar)

Combine mixture until desired consistency is achieved. Apply all over the body or to lips and scrub for 3-5 minutes.

Why we love this?

Well, we partly love this because it includes our favorite oil. BUT we also love it because we love coffee, and we know you love coffee too. Don’t love coffee? You probably love sugar. So this is a win-win. But in all honesty, this is the most seriously simple scrub that exists. It works well, smells great, and gives you beautiful skin. Here are some benefits:

  • Exfoliate skin

  • Reduce inflammation

  • Remove dead skin cells

  • Promote radiant (and youthful) looking skin

  • Relieve body pain or aches* (the oil will do this for you!)

  • Reduce tension throughout the body (again… the oil magic)

To be mindful of when using:

  • We would just say, use what you would put into your mouth. So if you wouldn’t eat the coffee or the sugar you are putting onto your body, we wouldn’t recommend! Use what you love.

Recipe Five (a bonus!)

What: BEING | Water Infusions

To: Hydrate

Recipe:

  • 1 Pitcher of water - we love spring water!

  • 2 Lemons

  • 1 Cucumber

  • *Want to balance your PH levels? Add 2 tbs of ACV

  • *Want to hydrate even more? Add a few shakes of your fav Himalayan salt

Quarter or half lemons and slice cucumber - add to pitcher. Fill pitcher with water. Enjoy!

Why we love this?

We. Love. Water. Hydration is simple, and it can taste even better by adding these TWO amazing ingredients. Cucumber hydrates and lemon detoxes. What more could you possibly want? Here are some benefits:

  • De-bloating (love)

  • Extra hydration

  • Extra vitamin c (lemon!)

  • Aid digestion

  • Freshen breath

  • Deliver antioxidants (cucumber!)

  • Promote healthy skin

To be mindful of when using:

  • Nothing! Hydrate hydrate hydrate.

And, that’s a wrap! We loved leading this event for the Women’s Social Club and they loved their new recipes. Be sure to try these concoctions at home, and let us know what you think by posting pictures of your final products and tagging @halorituals on IG.

In the meantime, be sure to check out some of our favorites such as the EMBOLDEN - Skin Elixir (yes, gender neutral!) and EMBOLDEN - Headspace Case (for luxury sleep).
